How to use the No-Smoking Zone Map
Find nearby no-smoking zones from your location or a district name. Values are copied from the Standard No-Smoking Zone Data, and we never say a place is a zone if it is not in the data. Law text is quoted as published, in Korean.
What the map does
Tap Use my location and the map lists zones within the radius you choose, nearest first, using the position your browser gives. If you do not allow location, you can still pick a district and see its whole list.
Each entry shows its category, scope, legal basis, fine, data date, managing body and address exactly as listed.
Where the data comes from
The source is the Standard No-Smoking Zone Data on data.go.kr, owned by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and uploaded by local governments. It is updated yearly. The dataset page has no separate license field and points to the portal's usage policy; when we checked on 2026-10-05 it showed no ban on commercial use.
The download held 609,466 rows. We removed 4,760 exact duplicates (same name, coordinates, category and scope) and 3 rows with coordinates outside Korea, leaving 604,703 rows split into 238 areas. Nothing else was changed.
The dataset page says indoor business premises are excluded, yet the data holds many indoor places, including about 285,000 restaurant-type entries. That is why there is an outdoor-only filter.
Dates differ by entry. The oldest is 2018-05-15 and the newest is 2026-08-31. The portal lists a modified date of 2026-06-19. The number of entries also varies a lot by area.
Law text
Below is the current text of the National Health Promotion Act (국민건강증진법), downloaded from the National Law Information open API on 2026-10-05. It is quoted without rewording and stays in Korean. Zones set by local ordinance differ by ordinance, so check the ordinance of the district.

The category is the word used in the data, in Korean. Groups such as Outdoor or Children and schools are ours, made only so you can filter. Each row still shows the original category.
Scope says whether the whole facility or only part of it is covered. If it is empty, the data has nothing and we leave it out.
The fine is the amount written in the data. The law only says up to 100,000 KRW, so the number shown follows the data. An empty value means the data has none.
Distance is a straight line from you to the single point in the data.
What the map cannot do
- It cannot draw zone borders. The data has one point per zone, so having a point within your radius is not the same as standing inside the zone.
- It does not know zones missing from the data. A facility that is no-smoking by law is not shown here if the local government did not upload it.
- It cannot promise the data is current. Dates differ by entry and the data is updated yearly. Signs on site come before this map.
- It does not decide whether a fine applies. It gives information only. Each local government sets how rules are enforced.
Common problems
Use my location does not work. Your browser may block location, or location may be off on your device. Picking a district works without it.
My area looks almost empty. That local government listed few zones. The count is shown at the top of each area page.
Where does my location go? It stays in your browser and is not sent to a server. See the privacy policy for details.
